FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Flue?
Flue is a lighting division of do.lab, an Istanbul-based production studio focused on additive manufacturing, material experimentation, and sculptural object design. We create architectural lighting objects using pigmented concrete, 3D printing, and hand-finished production methods.
Are your lamps handmade?
Yes. Every Flue object is produced and assembled by hand in our Istanbul studio. While we use additive manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing, all concrete casting, finishing, assembly, and testing processes are completed manually in-house.
What materials do you use?
Our collections primarily combine:
- Pigmented concrete
- PETG additive manufacturing
- Steel and electrical components
Concrete surfaces are hand-finished and cured over time, while the printed elements are produced layer by layer to create translucent light diffusion.
Are the lamps made to order?
Yes. Every Flue object is made to order after purchase. This allows us to carefully control production quality and customize electrical standards such as plug type and cable configuration.
How long does production take?
Production typically takes between 1-2 days depending on the piece and current studio workload.
Which plug types are available?
We currently offer:
- EU plugs
Plug preference is confirmed after your order.
What type of bulbs do your lamps use?
Most Flue objects use E14 bulbs with warm 2700K light temperature recommendations. Low-energy LED bulbs are recommended for optimal atmospheric glow and heat control.
Are the concrete surfaces identical?
No. Because each piece is cast, pigmented, and hand-finished individually, slight variations in texture, tone, grain, and surface character are natural and intentional. These differences make every object unique.
Can I commission a custom piece?
Yes. We accept selected commissions, custom pigments, and spatial adaptations depending on production capacity. For custom inquiries, please contact us directly.
Are the 3D print layers intentional?
Absolutely. We do not hide the production process. The visible print layers, seams, and assembly details are part of the design language and reflect the additive manufacturing process behind each object.
Where are your products made?
All Flue works are designed, produced, assembled, and tested in Istanbul, Turkey.
Do you work with architects and interior designers?
Yes. We collaborate with architects, interior designers, galleries, and creative studios for residential, hospitality, and spatial projects.
How should I clean the lamp?
We recommend using a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, chemicals, or excessive moisture on concrete surfaces.
What makes Flue different from conventional lighting brands?
Flue approaches lighting as a material and architectural study rather than decorative product design. Our collections focus on weight, geometry, atmosphere, and visible production processes — combining contemporary fabrication methods with slow, studio-based object making.
